Nepali Consul General unveiled Nepali poet’s statue in Kalyani

Ashis Poddar, Kalyani (Nadia) : “Nepali Poet Bhanu Bhakta is a renowned poet both in Nepal and India like Rabindranagar Tagore. We respect Tagore too in Nepal. The ideology of Bhanu Bhakta is too popular in our Society,” said Nepal Consul General Eknarayan Aryal at Kalyani in Nadia on Sunday.

He came here to unveil the stone statue of Nepali Poet Bhanu Bhakta Achariya. He congratulated the local Nepali inhabitants and Kalyani Municipal for the initiative of setting up the statue.

The poet had translated the Valmiki Ramayana in Nepali in 1814 and it was published by Motiram Bhatta in 1853. He found out the manuscript.

Bhanu had written a big part of the Ramayana sitting in Jail.

Ranjit Chhetri, Secretary, Nepali Jana Seba Sangha, Kalyani said,” the poet went to jail on behalf of his father. ”

While there are about 300 Nepali families in Kalyani, about 500 of them attended the programme on Sunday. The statue made of stone was set up by Kalyani Municipality following request of local Nepali residence. It was set up in a park near to the Municipality office.

This year was the 202 birth anniversary of the Poet. He was born on 13 July.

Ranjit Chhetri said that they stress in maintaining their language and literature in daily life.

The organization in Kalyani publishes a yearly magazine known as ‘Himal’. Consel General inaugurated the 5 th edition of the magazine on Sunday.
