Nabendu Bhattacharya, Nadia: Nadia Police arrested a youth for demanding lakhs of rupees from a female teacher over phone call and SMS. There was a constant threat too describing that if she does not pay the money , he would kill her husband and their son of 8 years. It happened at Bethuadahari under Nakashipara police station in Nadia early on Sunday, a police sources said. The miscreant was produced in Krishnagar Court and taken to police remand for 7 days.
Biswajit Das, teacher of Patikabari High School in Nadia’s Nakashipara and his wife Soma Dey is a Teacher in Subhas Chandra Balika Vidyalaya in Nadia’s Dhubulia.
However, Soma De received a phone call on 13 February from an stranger. The caller demanded rupees 4 lakhs from her. He more stated that if she shows reluctance to pay, her husband and eight year son would be killed.
She lodged a complaint with local Nakashipara police. The caller was calling calling constantly every day since February 13. Later on he had increased the amount of demand. Soma De said, “He gave me the payment deadline on 25 February and amount increased to rupees 8 lakh.”
Nadia police and Nadia Cyber Crime Cell had initiated an investigation jointly. They located the telephone tower of the caller at Chinchuria village near Bethuadahari in Nadia. Finally police pin pointed that the caller was one Sujay Karmakar.
The cop raided and arrested him early on Sunday, a police sources said. Police produced him in Krishnagar Court and taken to police remand for 7 days. The motive behind the calls yet to clear. A sources stated that Sujay did so just for joke. But no such confirmation was available from police.
