Press Relese/Kolkata: The Department of Emergency Medicine & Treatment In Oncology, Fortis Hospital, Anandapur organised a seminar to educate and empower physicians on emergency duty with the right knowledge and skill to deal with life threatening emergency episodes in cancer patients that may or may not be directly related to the disease. The seminar focused on sensitizing the physicians about the current development in Oncology and its application to the needs of patients and their treatment in emergency situation.
“The emergency physicians should maintain a high degree of suspicion and adequate clinical skills to manage these conditions early in the course of disease so as to improve the morbidity and mortality in these patients,” said Dr Sanjukta Dutta, Head Emergency, Fortis Hospital, Anandapur. Emergency medicine itself is a budding specialty in our country and Oncological emergencies are hardly treated by considering these patients’ special needs. Patients may succumb to death because of these complications rather than from the disease itself. The rationale for the seminar stems precisely from this need to educate and empower doctors to deal with such situations in a swift and efficient manner.
