1 killed, 10 injured in Nadia Road mishap


Arnab Majumder, Sting Newz Correspondent, Nadia: One person was killed and 10 others were injured when a private bus collided head on with a motorized rikshaw van after loosing its control on National Highway 34 at Bahadurpur area under Dhubulia police station in Nadia on Wednesday morning at about 8:30 a.m.

Police said, the deceased was identified as Ujjwal Bairagya (33), a seller of green coconut. He was a resident of Krishnagar Notun Para in Nadia. He was driving his motorished rikshaw van and going to Dhubulia to collect green coconuts for selling. When he reached at Bahadurpur, a Kolkata bound private bus collied head on with his van. Bairagya was killed on spot and one of his co-passengers were seriously injured. The rest 8 passengers were from the bus. The injured were rushed to Shaktinagar District Hospital in Krishnagar.

Local sources said, police rushed to the spot. The bus was running in high speed and hit the van after loosing its control and it overturned into the roadside ditch. As a result of this accident, there was a traffic jam for about 2 hours.

Police said, the driver of the bus fled from the spot. Both the vehicles were seized. The body was sent for post mortem. Police started an investigation.
